News / VC:MP and LU are teaming up!

As you may have already seen on the LU forum, the VC:MP and LU development teams have joined together to help work on each other's projects. While the VC:MP devs will continue working on 0.4, they will also be helping the LU developers with their work. At the same time, the LU devs will also work on LU, while also contributing to VC:MP 0.4.

VC:MP and LU have always been close-knit, both in regards to their development and their communities, and now that the developers are working together to improve both mods, GTA players will definitely get two amazing mods, and for two different games as well. :)

There will be a public beta test of VC:MP 0.4 on Aug. 6th.
Please read the entire thread first.



Testing Information
A second public beta of VC:MP 0.4 will be held on August 6th beginning at 14:00 GMT. This test will last at least 24 hours and will continue until the beta testing team believes that enough information for bugfixes has been collected. Beta testers and developers may ask you to do certain actions in order to find bugs or other issues in the server, and in those cases, you should do as they say. Otherwise, you should play as your normally would on any other server.

The gamemode will be a classic Team Deathmatch server. There will be multiple classes to select from, including a free-for-all team. Members of the same team (excluding the FFA team) cannot attack each other. There is no objective. Other commands have been added to accommodate stunting.




Installation Files
Download

A shortcut will be created on your desktop by the public beta installer to automatically join the test server. Please make sure that you install the public beta to a fresh/new installation of Grand Theft Auto Vice City to eliminate the possibility of crashing occurring due to any modifications you may have on your installation of Vice City.

As this is the second beta of VC:MP 0.4, the main goal is to continue to find and patch bugs and crashes in both the client and the server.

Some useful commands:

T - Chatbox
F5 - Scoreboard
TAB - Console
V- Enter vehicle as passenger
Alt + Enter - Switch between fullscreen and windowed mode
/reconnect - Typed into the chatbox. Will automatically attempt to reconnect the client to the server if the server happens to lose connection.



Changes Since Beta 1
  • Stability and sync improvements
    • Stability vastly improved by fixing frequent crashes
    • Fixed VC:MP not launching for certain players due to a resolution issue
    • The game will automatically recover from crashes (which will be logged anyways)
    • Fixed crouch sync
    • Improved object surf sync
    • Improved sync for sniper rifles
    • Players who are on fire now appear on fire for other players
    • Players who cannot attack now take damage properly
    • Rewrote the netcode to use less bandwidth
    • Upgraded networking library for increased stability and network performance improvements
  • New configuration settings
    • vcmp_config.txt can now be edited in-game, and changes will take effect immediately:
      • /setconfig
      • /getconfig
      • /listconfig
    • The location of the typing area of the console can be changed in vcmp_config.txt:
      • con_typeloc 0 - command line moved to the bottom (R2 style)
      • con_typeloc 1 - command line appears on top (Beta 1 style)
    • ASI mods can now be whitelisted using the game_allowedmods setting in vcmp_config.txt
      • Format: game_allowedmods mymod1.asi mymod2.asi mymod3.asi
    • Windowed mode can now be toggled using the game_windowed setting in vcmp_config.txt
      • Format: game_windowed 1 (windowed mode enabled)
    • Added config settings game_menuonrestore, splash_loadbarbgcol, and splash_loadbarfgcol
  • Newly implemented features
    • Keybinds have been added and can be used with any key on the keyboard, or any combination of up to three keys
    • Fully implemented interior switching; interiors can be entered simply by teleporting to their locations
    • All sound effects, including pedestrian commentary, are usable now
    • Implemented Hunter rockets
    • Added nearly two dozen new skins
    • Added new announcement types
    • Added map markers for players who are not streamed in
    • The scoreboard can now be scrolled through using the mouse wheel or PgUp/PgDown
    • Net statistics panel is now implemented
    • Each crash is now stored in its own log rather than overwriting the same log file
  • General bugfixes
    • Fixed players not dying when their vehicles explode
    • Resizing the game window no longer erases chat
    • Fixed setting object and pickup alphas
    • Players now teleport back to ground level after falling through the map
    • Players can now properly teleport into cars that are not streamed in to them
    • Vehicle sirens now sync properly
    • Players can now spawn using the mouse
    • Dying on the spawn screen is no longer possible
    • Fixed an occasional issue where drowning would cause you to spawn as Tommy Vercetti
    • Fixed an occasional issue involving the server forcing you to respawn immediately
    • Killing a player who is in first-person aim triggers the proper animation
    • Killing someone with tear gas now properly shows the killer
    • Percent signs in client messages now appear properly
    • Drivers of fully invincible vehicles can no longer be shot through the windshield
    • Melee weapons such as katanas and machetes now draw correctly when swung by other players



Reporting Bugs
Create a new thread with a brief description of the bug and put the tag "[Bug]" in the title. Include details such as how often you can reproduce or recreate the bug (always, sometimes, or rarely), what you were doing when the bug happened, and what you think caused the bug.

A bug report might look like this:

Reporting Crashes
The server is configured to collect crash information from players, but in order to better track these issues, please follow these instructions as well.

Crash information will appear in the folder you install VC:MP into. For example, if you installed VC:MP into C:\Program Files\Vice City Multiplayer, then there will be crashlogs in this location:

C:\Program Files\Vice City Multiplayer\04beta_b2t1\crashlogs

The top of each file will look like this:

Testing Information
The test has already begun and will continue until the beta testing team believes that enough information for bugfixes has been collected. Beta testers and developers may ask you to do certain actions in order to find bugs or other issues in the server, and in those cases, you should do as they say. Otherwise, you should play as your normally would on any other server.

The gamemode is an Attack/Defense and Capture The Flag hybrid. Two teams of players each have their own bases and points, and the objective is for a team to capture the opponent's base by standing on their point for a combined 15 seconds. You can get more information by joining the server.

A shortcut will be created on your desktop by the public beta installer to automatically join the test server. Please make sure that you install the public beta to a fresh/new installation of Grand Theft Auto Vice City to eliminate the possibility of crashing occurring due to any modifications you may have on your installation of Vice City.

This is the first public beta test that 0.4 has undergone. This means that a lot of bugs and crashes may occur as it is the first time this build has been exposed to a large number of players.

Some useful commands:

V - Enter vehicle as passenger
/reconnect - Typed into the chatbox. Will automatically attempt to reconnect the client to the server if the server happens to lose connection.



Reporting Bugs
Create a new thread with a brief description of the bug and put the tag "[Bug]" in the title. Include details such as how often you can reproduce or recreate the bug (always, sometimes, or rarely), what you were doing when the bug happened, and what you think caused the bug.

game_antialias

Description
Defines the behavior that VC:MP uses to antialias the game.

Allowed Values
0: Disables antialiasing
1: Enables antialiasing

Note
Antialiasing uses a significant amount of processing power, but makes the game look smoother. The VC:MP team only recommends enabling antialiasing if you can already run the game at 25fps on average, at minimum.



game_allowedmods

Description
A list of mods (ASI files) allowed to be used.

Allowed Values
Text, with each mod separated by one space, like so:
game_allowedmods mymod1.asi mymod2.asi mymod.flt



game_framereserve

Description
Decreases the amount of time the game waits before serving the next frame. If your framerate is lower than it should be, increasing the value of this decreases the amount of time waited by the number of milliseconds specified.

Allowed Values
Any integer (whole number) that is at least zero.



game_windowed

Description
Determines whether or not to run in windowed or fullscreen mode.

Allowed Values
0: Game will launch in fullscreen mode
1: Game will launch in windowed mode



game_menuonrestore

Description
Determines whether to return to the menu after returning from being Alt+Tabbed.

Allowed Values
0: Does not return to menu.
1: Returns to menu.

Description
Sets the background color of the loading bar on the splash screen.

Description

Description
Alters the size of the gap between letters in the chat console. Larger values increase the size of the font gap. Setting this to zero uses normal font gap size.

Allowed Values
Any number that is at least 0.



con_fontscale

Description
The relative size of the font as a multiplier. Larger values increase the size of the font. Setting this value to 1 uses the normal font size.

Allowed Values
Decimal values that are at least 0:

Acceptable: 0.005
Acceptable: 1.500
Not Acceptable: -5.000
Not Acceptable: 12pt



con_numoflines

Description
The maximum number of lines that appear when the console is expanded. The larger this value is, the more space the console takes up when expanded.

Allowed Values
Any whole number (at least 0)

Note
Setting this value to 0 hides the console entirely.



con_disappear

Description
The amount of time, in seconds, it takes for each message in the console to disappear.

Allowed Values
Any whole number (at least 0)

Note
Hidden messages can be seen by expanding the console (see: con_openkey). Setting this to 0 disables disappearing messages.



con_logging

Description
Determines what method VC:MP uses to log console messages.

Allowed Values
0 - No logging
1 - Plaintext logging
2 - HTML logging



con_fillcolour

Description
The background color of the console when it is expanded, expressed as an ARGB hexadecimal.

Allowed Values
ARGB hex colors (AARRGGB format)

Example
con_fillcolour FFFF00BB

FF: Alpha hex value (opacity)
FF: Red hex value
00: Green hex value
BB: Blue hex value



con_openkey

Description
The keycode of the key that expands the console.

I whipped this up for a personal project of mine and decided to make it available in case anyone wanted it. It's an 872x385 remake of the VC:MP logo that should look somewhat cleaner than previous iterations.

News / In light of the recent leak

Yes, most of you may have noticed that a test build of 0.4 was leaked. This was not the first time, and it will not be the last. However, we as a beta team have repeatedly stated that 0.4 was not in a ready state to be used by the general public. We repeatedly said that we were still working to fix it and that the community should not try to press for a release.

To answer some questions surrounding this "miracle build:"

  • This was not official.

    Some people may have skimmed the topic and thought that this was an actual release. It was not.

  • Yes, there are bugs.

    The leak was not condoned by anyone in the beta team whatsoever. Keep in mind that this was a leaked beta testing build. Not expecting bugs is foolishness.

  • There are no gamemodes.

    All scripting plugins have either not been written yet or are in their infancy and not fully usable for scripting. As a result, the server may state that "the gamemode does not exist." There are very little commands whatsoever that can be used, guns are inaccessible, and there isn't much to do but walk around an empty Vice City.

  • Did we mention that we weren't ready?

    Because we weren't ready for a release.

Today I am going to do what you never accomplished to, please the VC:MP community for good motives. Why? Simple, because you are a fucking inactive retard who has made us wait for the new version for a LONG time.

The fact that someone actually bothered leaking a broken build is not only highly upsetting, but also reflects poorly on their comprehension skills.
