READ FIRST - VC:MP 0.4 Public Beta #2

There will be a public beta test of VC:MP 0.4 on Aug. 6th.
Please read the entire thread first.



Testing Information
A second public beta of VC:MP 0.4 will be held on August 6th beginning at 14:00 GMT. This test will last at least 24 hours and will continue until the beta testing team believes that enough information for bugfixes has been collected. Beta testers and developers may ask you to do certain actions in order to find bugs or other issues in the server, and in those cases, you should do as they say. Otherwise, you should play as your normally would on any other server.

The gamemode will be a classic Team Deathmatch server. There will be multiple classes to select from, including a free-for-all team. Members of the same team (excluding the FFA team) cannot attack each other. There is no objective. Other commands have been added to accommodate stunting.




Installation Files
Download

A shortcut will be created on your desktop by the public beta installer to automatically join the test server. Please make sure that you install the public beta to a fresh/new installation of Grand Theft Auto Vice City to eliminate the possibility of crashing occurring due to any modifications you may have on your installation of Vice City.

As this is the second beta of VC:MP 0.4, the main goal is to continue to find and patch bugs and crashes in both the client and the server.

Some useful commands:

T - Chatbox
F5 - Scoreboard
TAB - Console
V- Enter vehicle as passenger
Alt + Enter - Switch between fullscreen and windowed mode
/reconnect - Typed into the chatbox. Will automatically attempt to reconnect the client to the server if the server happens to lose connection.



Changes Since Beta 1
  • Stability and sync improvements
    • Stability vastly improved by fixing frequent crashes
    • Fixed VC:MP not launching for certain players due to a resolution issue
    • The game will automatically recover from crashes (which will be logged anyways)
    • Fixed crouch sync
    • Improved object surf sync
    • Improved sync for sniper rifles
    • Players who are on fire now appear on fire for other players
    • Players who cannot attack now take damage properly
    • Rewrote the netcode to use less bandwidth
    • Upgraded networking library for increased stability and network performance improvements
  • New configuration settings
    • vcmp_config.txt can now be edited in-game, and changes will take effect immediately:
      • /setconfig
      • /getconfig
      • /listconfig
    • The location of the typing area of the console can be changed in vcmp_config.txt:
      • con_typeloc 0 - command line moved to the bottom (R2 style)
      • con_typeloc 1 - command line appears on top (Beta 1 style)
    • ASI mods can now be whitelisted using the game_allowedmods setting in vcmp_config.txt
      • Format: game_allowedmods mymod1.asi mymod2.asi mymod3.asi
    • Windowed mode can now be toggled using the game_windowed setting in vcmp_config.txt
      • Format: game_windowed 1 (windowed mode enabled)
    • Added config settings game_menuonrestore, splash_loadbarbgcol, and splash_loadbarfgcol
  • Newly implemented features
    • Keybinds have been added and can be used with any key on the keyboard, or any combination of up to three keys
    • Fully implemented interior switching; interiors can be entered simply by teleporting to their locations
    • All sound effects, including pedestrian commentary, are usable now
    • Implemented Hunter rockets
    • Added nearly two dozen new skins
    • Added new announcement types
    • Added map markers for players who are not streamed in
    • The scoreboard can now be scrolled through using the mouse wheel or PgUp/PgDown
    • Net statistics panel is now implemented
    • Each crash is now stored in its own log rather than overwriting the same log file
  • General bugfixes
    • Fixed players not dying when their vehicles explode
    • Resizing the game window no longer erases chat
    • Fixed setting object and pickup alphas
    • Players now teleport back to ground level after falling through the map
    • Players can now properly teleport into cars that are not streamed in to them
    • Vehicle sirens now sync properly
    • Players can now spawn using the mouse
    • Dying on the spawn screen is no longer possible
    • Fixed an occasional issue where drowning would cause you to spawn as Tommy Vercetti
    • Fixed an occasional issue involving the server forcing you to respawn immediately
    • Killing a player who is in first-person aim triggers the proper animation
    • Killing someone with tear gas now properly shows the killer
    • Percent signs in client messages now appear properly
    • Drivers of fully invincible vehicles can no longer be shot through the windshield
    • Melee weapons such as katanas and machetes now draw correctly when swung by other players



Reporting Bugs
Create a new thread with a brief description of the bug and put the tag "[Bug]" in the title. Include details such as how often you can reproduce or recreate the bug (always, sometimes, or rarely), what you were doing when the bug happened, and what you think caused the bug.

A bug report might look like this:

I was going to the other team's point in a Voodoo. I got out of the car and someone on the other team went invisible, so I shot them when I started fading.

Reporting Crashes
The server is configured to collect crash information from players, but in order to better track these issues, please follow these instructions as well.

Crash information will appear in the folder you install VC:MP into. For example, if you installed VC:MP into C:\Program Files\Vice City Multiplayer, then there will be crashlogs in this location:

C:\Program Files\Vice City Multiplayer\04beta_b2t1\crashlogs

The top of each file will look like this:

The public beta will take place on August 6th starting at 14:00 GMT and will include a Steam version for players using a version of Vice City bought on Steam.

i'm installed 0.4 beta1 to my vice city. when beta 2 release can i still install to my old vice city(which was contain beta 1)?

There is no reason to install 0.4 into your Vice City folder, but if you really want to, installing it there again will work.
