Title: Question
Post by: Charleyutton on November 30, 2010, 09:38:01 PM
There has been a rumour going around that the next release (0.4) is not going to have mIRC functionality. I think it would put a lot of minds at rest if we actually knew whether this is the case.

At the moment there are a lot of people afraid to start learning mIRC scripting, in case their new skills are rendered obsolete when the new version is released. There is also a fair amount of good mIRC scripters who have become somewhat lethargic over the thought that all their hard work may be for nothing.

So could we please have this rumour confirmed/denied so we can put the matter to rest.

Well the current list of rcon commands will stay so all irc scripts will still connect and work.

But as Boss was staying it will be a pawn server so all you cars and players will need to be added via pawn..

As for VRocker answer is correct also you can add in as many rcon commands as you like

Skirmant posted quotes 10 months old. Since this time, many things changed. For example, I haven't seen any developer last time (sorry... only Falcon idling at irc).

You still have time for learning PAWN anyway. In my beta opinion, 0.4 won't be released in this year. But who knows, a few last VCMP versions have been released around Christmas...
/me continues searching developers

This is the last posted post by any developer on this matter in this forum.  Falcon is near impossible to contact these days, even other developers had problems contacting him not to mention us - the mortals. But you can sometimes find Maxorator chilling out on MSN or the forum.

Fair enough, the developers are busy. But why don't they invite more to the team?
I think there would be people who are capable and want to help.

I asked this more for those who don't want to learn PAWN as they have already spent a lot of time learning mIRC.

Not: why don't invite, only: who invite? :p Every good coder/haxor is now at SA or IV multi and I guess they don't want to work on VC.

I have spent some time on mIRC coding too. But when VRocker, Juppi & Knight2k9 released they Squirrel sever with in-build scripting feature, I have left mIRC immediately and taught Squirrel's syntax. I knew, that I can't afford to host 24 hours some stupid scripts on my PC, but if it was possible, I have moved to SQ :].

As I said, there is still enough time to learn PAWN, why don't you guys start coding some basic, dummy commands to learn how it works? Ofc it is a difficult scripting language, but hey, don't say that you have learnt mIRC in 24 hours :p.
