No brainer, linux, duh.

Going off the fact that the pawn implementation is crap, this is only possible if you use the non-official Squirrel server.

Support / Re: Server memory leak

I'll add my name to the beg-list for this fix. My clan's server is often the most populated server in VC:MP, but once the playercount gets too high it crashes out and we lose all our players. This isn't only deflating our experience of the game, it is also driving players away.

I would rather the devs fix this and then not release anything else for 5 years than slowly moving towards a new version that has a couple of new features.

Agreed, it's not fair on the hoster or the server owners for their servers to explode from having no ram, I've seen the effects of this and believe me, it can rip an irc network in half, not a pretty sight, people dont want to play on servers if they just all of a sudden loose connection, so something needs to be done.

mIRC/pawn Scripting / Re: how to use Psa??

You two stop spamming, Terminator, there isn't any support for filterscripts since the pawn implementation is well, poor.

General Discussion / Re: Bringing New Life Back To VC:MP

Just my two cents but if you look around, there ARE servers with some pretty good scripts, for example theres SvM, HA, MDM, MDR, all official servers, even with their own forum section here, with some unique scripts on offer to the public. The problem is everyone just flocks to either XE or UMS, with UMS being a cheaters paradise, I hate to say it but there are more cheaters around now than there ever was.

We are cancelling the CTC tournament since no one has come forward for the group stages, probably down to us taking years to get them sorted but yeh!

Look out for more Project Apollo events coming up!

You can't avoid it, it's common that it crashes, the crashes are far less in R2 (supposedly) but do still happen.

So then I tried installing vc-mp into C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto Vice City\ then an error message appears. The error message telling me this:
Error opening file for writing:
C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto Vice City\vc-mp.exe
Click Abort to stop the installation,
Retry to try again, or
Ignore to skip this file.

If you know how to fix it please help. I just want to play.

That usually means that you have vc-mp.exe running at the time :P.

Right, first things first, sorry for no updates for the past half a month or so, I was putting all my efforts into getting Vice City Racing v3 completed!

However, the good news is that tonight I've finished off the game mode for CTC, so once we've got a server up and running on Project Apollo's dedi we'll let you know so you can start praciticing, should be starting within 2 weeks I guess.

Racing server / Vice City Racing v3 goes public!

Vice City Racing v3
After a successful public beta over the last five days we have managed to fix all the known bugs in the script and are now at the stage where we can publically release the script on our official Miami-Dade Racing server (project-apollo.co.uk:5192). We have put a lot of working into making it better than VCR v1 and v2, all the old features in VCR v1 have returned and been improved on as well making sure the VCR v2 features are also improved on. With the addition of lap races we are aiming to make this one of the best racing experiences available on VC-MP. Here is a list of some of the features that we have;

  • Cash based speedo (toggle with /c speedo)
  • Player based checkpoint streamer, making it easier to find your way around
  • Reversed starting grid! Finished the previous race last? You will start first in the next one
  • Improved functionallity
  • Lap races
  • IP2Country retrieval for use in stats
  • New look and layout from the previous versions
  • AFK System, need to go afk? Type /c afk to stop being included in the races, type /c afk again to return.

These are just a few of the things in VCR v3, go and check out the server to see for yourself! A full list of server commands can be found here, make sure you read up on them before joining the server!

Racing server / Vice City Racing v3 [Public Beta]
September 02, 2010, 09:31:46 PM
Today, Project Apollo are happy to announce that the script for the Miami Dade Racing server has now gone into the stages of Public Beta for Vice City Racing v3. We felt that VCR v2 was a bit of a let down after v1 with some features being left out of the initial release of the script. VCR v3 has gone back to the roots of VCR v1 and improved on this massively.

Returning VCR v1 Features:

- Personal bests.
- Gap to record.
- Cash based speedo (togglable between kph/mph)
- Average speed on race/lap finish.

New Features:

- New layout.
- Per player Checkpoint Streamer.
- Reversed starting grid.
* Finished the previous race last? Fear not, you will start first in the next!
- Improved functionallity.
- Lap races (only Teh-Lap is a lap race so far).
- IP2Country to retrieve the Country that you are connecting from.
- Things that were broke in VCR v2 now work!

Updates:

- Fixed a bug with races not loading.
- Fixed a bug where players with high pings would be sent to the stadium roof.
- Fixed a bug where a manual login wouldn't update your auto-login IP information.
- Fixed a bug where you get a DNF stat if the race was manually restarted or changed by an admin.
- Fixed a bug in the displaying of the race name on lap races.
- Fixed a bug where vote options wouldn't always be generated properly.
- Fixed a bug where players wouldn't be given a car if they failed to finish the race if an admin manually loads/restarts the race.
- Fixed a bug relating to the vote options where the races would fail to load when it came to counting the votes.
- Fixed a bug where the checkpoint streamer was trying to create too many checkpoints.
- Fixed a bug where empty grid slots weren't being filled up when they should have been.
- Fixed a bug where empty cars were being left around the map.
- Fixed a bug where passengers could use /c lastcp, /c flip and /c vr.
- Fixed a bug where you were classed as failing to finish the race if you weren't at the start.
- Fixed a bug where players weren't healed when a new race was started.
- Fixed a bug with (Team-)Kill messages not being sent to the echo channel.
- Fixed a bug where kicking/banning the only player on the server wouldn't reset the server status.
- Fixed a bug where the grid and car reservations were still stored even though the server was empty.
- Fixed a bug to do with sending the gap to the record time.
- Fixed a bug with the checkpoint streamer randomly going tits up (Those that took part in the public beta have made this hugely easier to fix than it was in private testing).
- Fixed a bug where all players would finish the race and send the countdown timer too far loading up races and skipping things.
- Fixed /c lastcp telling you that your going back to the last checkpoint and the starting line.

- Added the ability for the script to tell you how many laps behind you are.
- Blocked any fighting sync so players can only be hurt by vehicles.
- Added in /c commands
- Added in gap to 2nd when your leading.

All commands can be found here.

The script was writen from scratch and was left for a few months but I finally decided to come back to it :P.

Feel free to come and join us on project-apollo.co.uk:5198 or at our echo channel #Miami-Dade.Beta
