General Discussion / High Quality Loading Screen
« on: February 17, 2013, 10:42:18 pm »
Since the current loading screen that comes with vc-mp is low resolution (512x512 I think) and is quite displeasing to look at due to this especially on a large screen monitor. Darfy, me and Ryz decided to take the time to try and recapture the moments in the original loading screen but in 1920x1080 resolution as a result appearing more sharp and fresh. We went ahead and opened up a server and started trying to replicate each screen as accurately as possible. We didn't 100% replicate each screen exactly as they were in the original but I think we got close enough that it can be deemed a good attempt at trying to achieve it. Yeah, sure what the heck the loading screen only appears for about 5-10 seconds at most but still we went ahead and did it. Take a look at the comparison screenshots of the old and new:

New: http://bryce.vc-mp.pl/img/images/GLkpo.png

Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?x5dan0d4kkkv254

Install: Place "ldvcmp0.txd" into the "txd" folder at "Grand Theft Auto Vice City\txd". Remember to backup the original file by simple copying and pasting it incase something goes wrong then you can revert back to the original. Done.

Also special thanks to Ryz for piecing it altogether in photoshop for us.  ;D

Are those bots synchronised between clients? I remember ages ago (0.1d I think) you could change some line in the vc-mp  .scm file that allowed pedestrians to spawn on the streets but they weren't synchronised and didn't really do much e.g there wasn't gang members, just generic peds.

Never heard of that problem before, weird. I guess you could try messing around with VSync options under your graphics card control panel. (Nvidia Control Panel/ATI Tools whatever it may be)

Most likely it's due to not establishing a proper connection to whatever server your connecting to. Could either be

A) Mismatching client/server version. Simply put, your vc-mp version doesn't match the version of the server you are trying to connect too. (I think, not sure if it displays an output on the client if there is a problem like that)

B) The system you are on is blocking gta-vc.exe from gaining access to the Internet e.g a Firewall rule on Windows Firewall/Anti-Virus software on the machine your using. Or it could be that the router on your network has specific rules to block port information related to vc-mp from going in and out of your network.

C) Lastly it could just be something silly like a mistyped IP address or connecting to a server that doesn't exist. For example sometimes when copying and pasting an IP address to the "Add Server" on the favourites menu it will leave a blank space at the end of the IP address which the browser recognises and becomes something totally different. Another really silly case of this would be if a friend set up a server and told you
"Come join my server at 192.168.2.1:5192" Which is a local network private IP address so you wouldn't get anywhere with that.  ;D

Support / PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING A NEW TOPIC.
« on: February 14, 2012, 03:22:03 pm »
These are just some general guidelines users should follow before creating a new topic.

1. Disable/remove all modifications
The VC:MP team will not be obligated to give you support if you have any mods installed, especially the following:
  • CLEO
  • Murdock's VCA
  • DnA's modified client (with reconnect)

We cannot guarantee the stability of your game if you are using mods. Try playing VC:MP on a clean installation if you are not doing so already and try again.

2. Search through previous topics within the Support board before posting

The problem you are experiencing may be a common occuring problem/question that has been thoroughly discussed many times before and has perhaps even been addressed. Furthermore, the "Tutorials" childboard may also be of use in helping you to achieve what you wish to do.

3. Use a descriptive topic title

If you have had a look through older topics and can't find anything of relevance then this brings me to my next point. When creating a new topic please make sure that the topic title is descriptive. By this I mean no topics with "PLZZZ HELP ME!!11" or "HELP, HELP!". An example of a more suitable topic title would be something more meaningful such as:

"I can't connect to any servers.",
"Single player launches when I launch VC-MP!"
or "Where can I get ping softwares please?"

By doing this each topic title becomes more descriptive and less vague as opposed to 20 topics with "help pls!!" which isn't very helpful and makes it a nuisance for other players to navigate through topics.

4. Provide as much helpful information as possible in your post

Depending on the situation additional information may be required or may just be of extra use in helping others to help you with your problem. Such information may include -

What is your problem, aswell as the symptoms?
When did it start occuring?
Do you have a theory to why it may be happening? e.g any recent changes to vc-mp related files, or your system itself?

Again... depending on the situation other bits of information may become useful such as your Operating system, VC-MP version, Vice City .exe version, and perhaps even what type of Router you have depending on if it's a network connectivity related issue. We are also aware that language barrier problems can become a problem aswell so just try your best.  :)

5. Once posted, be patient.

If no one posts in your topic it's more than likely because they can't help you. Bumping the topic after one day of no replies and shouting in an aggressive tone "WILL SOMEONE PLEASE HLEP ME!!!11???? PLZZZZZ" doesn't help either. If anything all this will do is make anyone who reads the topic be put off on helping you due to the way you act. Please do not also send private messages to other members such as the Developers and Beta testers asking them for support with your problem and linking them to your topic.

Most if not all of the above is just applied common sense yet even at first glance looking over the Support board it caught my eye how many people fail to do these steps. There will also be some people who won't even look at this topic to begin with then proceed to fail at following every step but... some people are just frozen yogurts. ^^

Support / Re: Resolution increase option is disabled in Display Menu
« on: January 01, 2012, 03:42:13 am »
If your using Windows Vista/7 and you are running vc-mp.exe in compatibility mode so that an infinite flood of errors don't start popping up all over your screen when you are closing the server browser then that could be the reason why.  Compatibility mode forces the game to run in 640 x 480 resolution as a side effect. So if you have a widescreen monitor which is designed for 16:9 resolutions and is being forced into a 4:3 resolution (640x480) then that's why the black cut off points are at both sides of the screen. There is two solutions for this.

  • You could just uncheck compatibility mode on the vc-mp browser and instead of closing it as normal you could kill the process in Task Manager (that would stop the errors from popping up).

You could also try VRocker's custom browser which has fixed that error when you close it but you have to sacrifice some features from the original browser e.g you can't right click on a server on the Internet list and add it to favourites you have to write down the IP in notepad or somewhere then go to the favourites tab and add it from there.
Here's the topic for VRocker's browser: http://forum.vicecitymultiplayer.com/index.php?topic=1350.0

The most common problem with it starting in singleplayer is due to the installer for 0.3z R2. By default the installer points to the location "C:\Grand Theft Auto Vice City" which is usually not where your Vice City will be installed. Players are either unaware that it has to be installed to this folder or they don't know where there Vice City folder is. Therefore they click next and the installer just extracts the files into an empty folder.

The player will then probably open up the server browser assuming everything is ok and when they try to launch for the first time a message will appear saying "Please locate your gta-vc.exe" they will then locate it and the game will launch. The problem is however is that since the extracted files are not in the Vice City folder (mainly vcmp.flt in Grand theft auto vice city/mss) the game just loads up normally to the singleplayer menu and the person is confused.

Alternatively I think having a .dll in the root folder of Vice City e.g a mod that uses a .dll file as a component would be the speedometer/tachometer for Vice City mod. That can also cause the game to launch into singleplayer if I recall.

If you are someone reading this and you have the same problem and do not know where your Vice City folder is then it will either be...

CD/DVD installation: C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto Vice City

OR

Steam games installation: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\grand theft auto vice city

Good luck. :)

Try deleting your whole Vice City folder after your uninstall the other day my VC-MP was starting in Singleplayer because I had a d3_d8.dll thingy in the folder which was an analog speedometer mod which wouldn't work with vc-mp.

Support / VC-MP Client Proccess hog issue.
« on: August 13, 2007, 09:44:23 pm »
Hi sometimes when after playing VC-MP when i quit GTA VC the VC-MP client's starts hogging up all of my process usage so when i open up task manager i then see that vcmp.exe in the processes tab is taking up 98% of process usage. I then have to then close the client then re-open this isnt a big problem for me but can become annoying sometimes especially if VC-MP crashes ingame and then i try to relaunch it again quickly.

I have had this problem since i got my new PC so i think it could be the problem. This problem occurs with me in 0.3/x/z and it dosent happen with a similiar browser that is the SA-MP one. I dont have any idea of what could be causing this strange problem.

Thanks
