multiplayer not working

ok im good with computers and i love this game and so i finally download this and when i try to launch into a server it goes to the normal game, no chat box no nothing and no other players online even thought theres like 15 on the server program?

i tried reinstalling it, is it because of my game?
 i did modify it a lot and i dont have a clean copy anymore, could that be it?

^This. You need a clean copy of vc to play it.

May be 2 diferents problem.

1. Unistal VCMP and Install it newly.

2. In vcmp, On top says: " Tools" then click " Settings " , then click on this mini-folder " Vice City Multiplayer Instalation Location" the specific where do you have Vc + MP.
