Crashing Upon Starting VC:MP

Let me start by saying that I am a huge fan of VC:MP. I used to play it day in and day out.

Anyway, moving away from the sucking up-ness, I recently re-installed my copy of Vice City in the hopes that I would be able to play Vice City Multiplayer again. I installed the 0.3z client, and attempted to join the official littlewhitey's server. Unfortunately, my game crashed right when the "Connecting to... (IP address of the server)" message came up, and I was shown the taxi depo screen. As usual with Vice City multiplayer crashes, the first sound I heard was a beep from Windows.

Can anyone help? I'd really like to play VC:MP again.

In total, I tried about twelve times.

At first I thought it was the fact that I didn't have Read Only unchecked. But whenever I try to uncheck it, my PC just rechecks it after I hit "Apply."

I'm not talking about the crashes you get after playing for about ten or fifteen minutes. I know those can't be fixed. What I'm saying, is that I can't even get into any of the damn servers. The second the game starts, it crashes. I never get past the "Connecting to... (IP)" screen.

did you firstly installed the fixed edition b4 you install the 0.3z ._.

I installed the only client available on the official site in the Downloads section.
