Its downloads, not page views.
So yes, we are losing a lot of people trough this outdated thing...

But botz are searching the whole page. The download link isnt "site/vcmp.zip" only "site/file.php?asdasd" and stupid botz enter them. After entering the count of "downloads" is increased.

nah google is that smart, it doesn't follow that link.
And download.com is also that smart that it doesn't increase the download count every time Google passes that page.

So, Yes these are downloads...
