Forum Needs Updating
« on: April 12, 2013, 12:17:10 am »
The forum is two versions outdated. It is susceptible to attacks. Please fix this guys.

Anyone with Package Manager rights can install the update without even needing to upload anything. SMF will present a link in the Package Manager for the SMF 2.0.3 update. Click it, install the mod, done. It will show a link in the same location again for the latest update, (2.0.4). Repeat the process. Delete the other 2 older update packages that are no longer "uninstallable". You are done.

Edit: Someone also needs to change the email address in the forum's settings to one using the domain [that exists], rather than someone's personal one. Outgoing emails from the forum get flagged by email services as possible phishing attempts due to being sent by someone's personal email address.

That is exactly what I'm talking about. 2.0.3 and 2.0.4 can be installed to any SMF 2.0.2 forum via the Package Manager. SMF 2.x offers this method of updating. ;)

You just have to install one at a time before the link for the next one shows up, hence the "repeat for the latest version" part in my first post.

They patch them before the mice find them. ;)

This really depends if whoever has the host account is active.

Not really. Anyone with access to the Package Manager can do it. That would basically be any VC:MP Developer.

I think always at least one mouse finds the cheese. SMF is not a new projects, but the developers are still making mistakes and then quickly fixing it.

SMF is not a new projects, but the developers are still making mistakes and then quickly fixing it.

That principle applies to every piece of software that has ever existed, including Windows, and even including VC:MP.
Do not PM me for support.

Exactly. If anything, SMF is one of the most proactive forums out there at powering out updates when an exploit is discovered.

This current issue has nothing to do with SMF's design. It is a failure on those who have the rights and access who have not updated the forum. SMF cannot do it for them.

Why don't you use phpBB.
Because they chose to use SMF instead. This has nothing to do with their choice of software, nor does it matter.

So is SMF. Comparing the two is a ridiculous argument that has nothing to do with my topic. I use both of them, so keep that fanboy crap out of here please.

There's no fanboy crap, phpBB is much more secure.
